COVE

 “COVE”

Plastik Kembali, 2024
Immersive Installation
Recycled plastic, waste textile, steel, upcycled boat fenders, acrylic paint

About the Artwork

From the imagination of Elissa Gjertson, artist & founder of Plastik Kembali, “Cove” brings an abstract view of coral and other sea creatures to life through waste material, including a sculptural interpretation of an Artificial Reef (AR) – one promising solution to rejuvenate new coral life amidst widespread devastation wrought by climate change, plastic pollution and more.

The “Cove” installation features:

  • Nearly 50 kilometers of PK’s signature “tali” (“rope”) made from recycled plastic and waste textile, repurposing the equivalent of approximately 40,000+ plastic bags and thousands of meters of waste textile

  • PK’s “AR(T) Reef” sculpture, a creation of hand-bent steel, acylic paint and approximately 25 kilograms of recycled & melted polypropylene plastic

  • Upcycled boat fenders covered with PK’s signature “tali”

  • “Undersea” paintings created by layering ink over waste textiles on wood

The goal? Art as social change, inviting visitors to reflect on the fragility of marine ecosystems while inspiring all to work toward a more sustainable future. Join the fight.
